George Chahal’s values were ingrained from a very young age by his parents, Ram and Surinder Chahal, immigrants to Canada from the United Kingdom. They faced the challenges and opportunities related to immigrating to Canada with a young family with grace and a sense of humour.

The values of universal health care, a quality public education system and a world free of racism were formed in George’s early youth.

On his way to becoming the Member of Parliament for Calgary Skyview, George also studied at the University of Calgary graduating with a degree in economics and later, a Masters Degree in Environmental Design focused on urban planning.

Growing up in the bust and boom economy of the 1980’s also formed baseline values for George. In one decade, Calgary moved from the depths of a significant recession to a thriving, international city who hosted one of the defining moments of Georges life: The 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics.

Being a part of a community and giving back through volunteering was a foundational part of George's upbringing. George had the honour of participating in various events and initiatives with his father, who was a community advocate, and someone who valued seva as his top priority. Those experiences stuck with George and later led George to get into public service, so he could continue giving back.

In 2003, George married the love of his life, Aman, and has been blessed with three daughters—a beautiful family of his own. Bringing beautiful children into a world that is so often defined by ugly racism forces George to recommit to attacking racist ideas, anti-immigrant sentiment and other ills of society.

George fights for his family, his community and his city. You can often see him in the news pushing for increased investment, better services and the highest ethical standards.
